Sachin Tendulkar, the God of Cricket retired from ODI cricket recently. A household name in India, he has made the nation proud time and again with his on-field exploits. Having won millions of fans from around the world, he is an icon and asset of our country. Let us check some interesting facts about him.

# Sachin is an avid tennis player. At one point in his life, he considered taking up tennis as his career. Well, had his decision remained the same, we would lose a cricketing gem. Anyway tennis’ loss is cricket’s gain. Also Sachin is a big fan of tennis legend John McEnroe.

# After taking up cricket, he wanted to become a fast bowler. He took fast bowling quite seriously until he was rejected by Dennis Lillee’s MRF Pace Foundation. It was Dennis who told Sachin to focus on batting rather than bowling.

# He endorses a number of brands. He reportedly earns around $16.5 Million from various endorsements. The brands he endorses are Adidas, Pepsi, Visa, Palio etc. But the first brand which he endorsed was Boost: the health drink along with Kapil Dev.


# Sachin has many nick names. Here are they: Little Master, Tendlya, The Little Champion, and Master Blaster.


# He was gifted a Ferrari car by F1 champion Michael Schumacher in 2002. The gift was in honour of him equaling Don Bradman’s record of 29 test centuries. He loves to drane around Mumbai late night when the roads are relatively empty.


# Due to his popularity Sachin often finds it difficult to hang out in public. He sometimes disguises himself using shades and large hats to roam out in public. He, once famously went to watch the film Roja with a beard and disguise. But all hell broke loose when the crowd finally recognized him!

# A new variety of mango has been named after him. This hybrid mango was created by Padma Shri, Haji Kalimullah Khan, also known as the mango king.

# He is the only cricketer to have a statue at Madame Tussauds.
