CBT

CBT stands for Computer Based Test. This test forms the first stage of selection process. Candidates who clear CBT are made to undergo the skill test (if applicable).

Let us take a closer look at the highlights of CBT –

  • Language of test: English and hindi.
  • Type of questions: MCQs.
  • Duration: 2 hours (40 minutes extra for PwD candidates).
  • Negative marking: No.
  • Number of questions: 100.
  • Subjects: Subject or domain-specific subjects, interpersonal skills, logical reasoning, analytical reasoning, comprehension ability, data interpretation, general awareness etc.

In short, the test is aimed at gauging the applicant’s domain-specific knowledge and overall aptitude. The paper primarily revolves around domain-specific questions. Domain-specific questions carry 80 marks. General aptitude and awareness questions carry 20 marks.

In case of few job posts, the CBT is followed by a skill test. When it comes to these posts, CBT is followed by the skill test. Candidates who manage to clear CBT are asked to appear for the skill test.

Merit list

When it comes to final selection, ONGC relies on the merit list. How is this merit list made, some of you may ask. The merit list is crafted on the basis of a candidate’s performance in the written test (CBT) and his/her academic performance.

Highlights of selection process

  • CBT is the qualifying test. A candidate must score at least 40% marks if he/she wants to move to the next stage (of selection process).
  • In case of a tie between two candidates, appointment will be given to the candidate with more marks in the CBT. If the tie still persists, appointment shall be offered to the candidate who is older among the two.
  • When it comes to the selection process, first consideration will be given to ONGC departmental candidates or tenure based employees.
