Types of engineering colleges

There exists two main types of engineering colleges in Sikkim –

  • Government engineering colleges
  • Private engineering colleges

 

Govt colleges are owned and managed by the State or Central Government. Since Govt takes care of these institutes, they are able to provide subsidized education to students. Private colleges are owned and managed by private charitable trusts and organizations. They are known to charge relatively higher tuition fees.

Types of engineering courses

Engineering education programs are available in different formats such as –

B.E./B.Tech. is the most popular engineering course in India. It is an undergraduate level engineering education program. Students who have passed 12th science with PCM subjects are eligible to pursue most of the B.E. or B.Tech. programs. Some B.E. or B.Tech. programs have different eligibility criteria and subject requirement. The course is 4 years long.

 

Diploma in Engineering is a Diploma certificate program. The course is 3 years long. Students who have passed 10th standard are eligible to apply for admission.

 

M.E. or M.Tech. is a Master’s Degree course. The academic program is 2 years long. Students who have completed relevant B.E. or B.Tech. program OR equivalent qualification are eligible to apply for M.E. or M.Tech. admission.
