BCA stands for Bachelor of Computer Application. It is an Undergraduate Level Bachelor’s Degree course. I’ve already written a detailed article about BCA course on Apnaahangout (link given in this post). After that, I’ve been getting queries from Commerce stream students, like- ‘Can I do BCA after completing 12th Commerce?’ ‘Is it possible for Commerce stream students to study BCA after 12th?’ etc. So, I decided to put up a post for Commerce stream students. I will tell how Commerce stream students may pursue BCA, describe different possibilities that exists, limitations, which comes along with these possibilities etc.
Can Commerce stream students do BCA after 12th?
The answer is yes. But you must know some facts before you start working on admission process! BCA is a Bachelor’s Degree course which any stream students can pursue (Science, Commerce and Arts) after completing 12th schooling from a recognized Board.
Some limitations that Commerce stream students must take note of
But the main problem is that to get admission in reputed Institutes, one must also have taken part in Entrance examination (State wise and/or All India Level) and scored good marks in it. Now this is not something that most Commerce/Arts stream students do!
But the good news is that many other Colleges exist, where Commerce stream students may get direct admission in BCA progam
.There are some Colleges, which have a condition that students seeking admission in BCA program must have had Mathematics as a subject during their 12th Standard. So, Commerce stream students who had Mathematics subject during 12th will be able to satisfy this criteria and get admission in BCA program.
Then there exists other Colleges, where none of the above conditions apply! In such Institutes, you may get admission in BCA program even without having had Mathematics as a subject during 12th Commerce stream schooling!
Even if you get admission in one such College, please remember that you will take some time to get adjusted to some topics and concepts (especially related to Mathematics) being taught in the class. In short, Commerce stream students are eligible to pursue BCA course. But as mentioned above, there are some limitations and conditions, such as- entrance tests, Mathematics subject criteria etc. But as I wrote, there exists Institutes that accepts Commerce stream students without them having to satisfy the criteria mentioned above.
