It would be a waste of money if Real Madrid sign Gareth Bale for such a huge amount
Gareth Bale’s transfer to La Liga giants Real Madrid looks imminent. It is reported that Real Madrid have already built a stage to unveil their latest ‘Galactico’ signing. This transfer is all set to break the current transfer record. The transfer fee is expected to be around 85 million pounds. But I think Real Madrid are paying too much for a player, who, they actually don’t need!
It is a fact that Gareth Bale is one of the best footballing talent out there. The Welshman scored crucial goals and he single handedly took his club Tottenham Hotspurs to the brink of Champions League qualification. He has won individual honours like PFA Player of the year and PFA Young Player of the Year recently. But unfortunately, his team hasn’t won any.
Gareth Bale is a quality player. But, at the moment, it doesn’t look like Real Madrid can’t do without him. Real Madrid has the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Isco. Now, if they buy Bale for a world record transfer fee, it is obvious that he will be drafted to the playing 11. But in which position will bale play at Madrid?
Why Real Madrid actually don’t need Bale at the moment :
Look at Real Madrid’s current playing 11- they have the red-hot Ronaldo to score goals and boss the opposition defence. Then they have the technically gifted Isco who can play the role of an attacking midfielder. So, is there a need for Real Madrid to buy Gareth Bale for such a huge amount?
Gareth Bale reached his true potential when his managers Harry Redknapp and Andre Villas Boas gave him a free role on the pitch. He was free to roam around, switch flanks and cut in with the ball. This free role enabled him to score goals regularly through-out last season.
At Real Madrid, this role is played by the mercurial Cristiano Ronaldo. Further, they also have talented Isco, who is very much capable of playing this role. So, in which position will Bale play for Real Madrid?
Now, if Madrid are looking for a fast and tricky winger in Bale, then it must be noted that Madrid already have a talent who can be converted into a quality winger- Marcelo. The Brazilian is fast, has excellent dribbling skills, ball control and crossing abilities. He has good understanding with team-mates like Ronaldo. So, if Madrid deploy him as a winger and give Fabio Coentrao the defending duties, then there will be no need of buying Bale.
At the price that Real Madrid are willing to pay for Bale, they could buy 2-3 quality young players to increase the squad depth and strength. They can invest the huge amount more productively by investing on more than one player and reinforce the areas where they need to improve.
