Harry Redknapp is ‘near illiterate’

Harry Redknapp is a talented manager. His career has had many highs and highs. He led Portsmouth to an FA Cup victory and transformed Tottenham Hotspurs from a bottom table club to the elite group of clubs. He also has been able to get the best out of his players. The best example being Gareth Bale. I felt surprised when he was denied the chance to coach the national team of England. Roy Hodgson is a good choice but Harry would have been better.

So many achievements to his name, right? What if I say that the man who accomplished these feats is almost illiterate? Hard to swallow? Well, I suggest you to gulp down a jug of water and swallow it. It is a fact that he was brought up in poverty. His upbringing had a big impact on his education.

A young Harry

Harry had been tried in court for tax evasion on January 2011. In his defence, he claimed that he was almost illiterate and couldn’t manage all the file and paperwork pertaining to it. The court was also convinced about his poor literary skill like reading and writing. A tape recording of his trial quotes him as saying, ”I can’t work a computer, I don’t know what an email is, I can’t, I have never sent a fax and I’ve never even sent a text message. I have a big problem, I can’t write so I don’t keep anything. I am the most disorganized person, I am ashamed to say, in the world.”

So how does he go about his daily chores like managing a freaking football club? His accountant manages all his financial transactions and his coaching staff deals with all the club dealings. For managing a club, his skill and knowledge of the game is sufficient.
