Being students (studious ones), we have been used to reading books. Reading books, some of us have also ‘earned’ the tag of bookworms. I know guys who wouldn’t mind taking their books to the toilet. I mean such is their ‘liking’ for books. The book may or may not be related to studies. Do you know how many types of books are there? Below is a standard classification of the types of books.
A book that is used to get the meanings of words. The words are arranged alphabetically. Different types of dictionaries are available. Ex- English to Hindi, English to English etc.
A reference book published annually. It contains the information about the events and happenings of the previous year.
Contains information about a place, country etc. It is written keeping in mind the needs of a traveler.
It is a work of fiction. It involves imaginary characters, events and places. Historical novels may be about real people and happenings though.
We all have had them, almost all. It is a book of maps.
This book contains information on various subjects. The subjects are arranged alphabetically. A single book is not sufficient to contain all the information. So, many volumes are published at once. Who needs bulky encyclopedia when we got Wikipedia?
A book about a person’s life which is written by someone else.
A book about a person’s life written by oneself.
A book that lists and describes places.
An alphabetical list of people’s names, their addresses etc.
A dictionary of dated events.
A book used to find the words with similar meanings.
A short novel.
An annual calendar of events and dates.
A list of books on a particular subject.
A book on a specialized subject.
A list of words and terms related to a certain subject.
A book containing the translation of phrases from and into a foreign language.
Pop up book
Books made for children. They are made such a way that when the pages are turned, pictures stand up and move. The pictures are related to the story of the book.
A collection of writings/articles on a certain theme.
