Course duration

The course format discussed in this article is 1 year long.

 

Eligibility criteria

Graduate in Physical Education with minimum 40% marks OR Graduate with Physical Education as an elective subject with minimum 40% marks OR Any Graduate who has participated in National/State/Inter-University sports/SGFI OR Graduate with sports achievement.

 

Admission process

Reputed institutes follow merit based admission process. Deserving candidates are selected after conducting a physical fitness test, written test and interview and checking their sports achievement in the last 3 years. The marks scored by candidates in graduation program are also taken into account.

 

Based on the tests and marks scored in graduation program, seats are allotted to deserving candidates.

 

Syllabus

B.P.Ed. curriculum boasts a holistic mixture of classroom lectures, practical training and teacher training sessions. The syllabus can roughly be divided into two parts –

  2. Practicals

 

There are 6 theory subjects in total. Practicals can further be divided into three categories – Proficiency in games and sports, teaching ability and allied areas.

Theory Subjects: 1 History and foundation of Physical Education, 2 Anatomy, Physiology and Kinesiology in Physical Education, 3 Management in Physical Education, 4 Coaching and Officiating in Sports and Games, 5 Health Education and Recreation in Physical Education, 6 Statistics and Computer Application in Physical Education.

 

Practical: 1 Proficiency in Games and Sports (Athletics, Gymnastics and Yoga, Game of specialization), 2 Teaching Ability, 3 Allied Areas.
